Keeping Your Dog Nice And Tidy During Winter

Dog Dog Grooming

Brrr! The cooler months are here and most of us are spending more time indoors cuddled up on the couch. You’ll feel better about inviting your dog up onto the couch with you if they’re clean, soft & smelling great!

Sophie the Bichon Frise has a grooming care calendar, which includes a Full Groom, followed by two Nice and Tidies over a 6 month period.

In Autumn (March/April/May), Sophie has a Full Groom, which covers:

  •         A full body clip
  •         Any mats are removed where dirt, moisture and bacteria can become stuck, which could be unhealthy & uncomfortable for your dog (and smelly!)
  •         Trim & style the face (her owner wants to see those beautiful eyes!), the feet, and clip the groin area to keep her healthy
  •         Clip Sophie's nails (too long and they can be uncomfortable and cause problems with her feet)
  •         Give the ears a good clean and pull out any excess ear hairs (this prevents ear infections)
  •         A warm bath with our premium shampoo which is massaged in to make Sophie feel great
  •         A towel dry followed by warm blow dry to fluff that hair (leaving her completely dry)
  •         And finish with a nice spray of cologne.

Sophie's owner Andrew prefers her to have extra hair around her face to give her the Bischon Frise look. Sophie's groomer ensures that first there are no mats left in her coat and then styles her head appropriately.

From Sophie's Full Groom until her next visit to the salon, Andrew brushes Sophie every second day using the correct brush for her coat type. Any coat with curl (like in Poodles and Bichons) can quickly become matted and feel like felt. Sophie is an indoor dog, so Andrew uses a Puppia brand coat conditioning spray which keeps her smelling nice (particularly good for pats on his couch).

Winter (June July August):

During Winter, most people prefer to keep their dog's hair at a medium to long length due to the cooler weather. Sophie's hair is kept at a short to medium length as her owner find this easier to maintain, as Sophie is prone to matting. Sophie has a collection of dog jackets for different purposes, such as walking in the cold and one to sleep in so she is kept warm throughout winter.  If Andrew left her hair long the jackets she wears could cause her hair to matt more quickly.

Sophie visits the salon for a Nice and Tidy in winter to maintain the Full Groom that she had in Autumn.

  •         We remove any mats where dirt, moisture and bacteria can become stuck
  •         We tidy the face (Andrew's request for the Bichon style head is tidied), the feet and groin area are all maintained as well
  •         Clip Sophie's nails
  •         Give the ears a good clean and pull out any excess ear hairs that may have appeared since the Full Groom
  •         A warm bath with our premium shampoo which is massaged in
  •         A towel dry followed by warm blow dry to fluff that hair and leave her completely dry
  •         And finish with a nice spray of cologne.

Andrew (Sophie's owner) continues to brush Sophie every second day and spray her coat with a conditioning spray to keep her smelling fresh.  For Sophie's coat, she needs another Nice and Tidy in 4-6 weeks for maintenance and to keep her body clean and healthy. After her second Nice and Tidy (another 4-6 weeks later), Sophie is due for her next Full Groom.  This Grooming Calendar tailored for Sophie keeps her coat in great condition, so she is always feeling clean and tidy.
