Dog Park Kit and Etiquette
The word “walkies” (or whatever the word may be) is one that gets tails instantly wagging. As a pet parent is there anything better than a trip to the dog park on the weekend? It’s almost a ritual with a coffee stop on the way, then catching up with the “regulars” at the park and somehow despite chatting to the owner almost every week, you only know the name of their dog.
Park visits call for a ‘dog park kit’ and Best Friends have all the essentials (and more) in store. See our checklist below – does your kit need an update?
Poo bags (don’t get caught out)
Portable water bowl (ensure your dog isn’t left parched)
Matching collar and lead (ensure your dog is the park trend setter)
Treats (if your dog tends to wander off, treats are the best way to get them back and encourage good behaviour)
Dog coat or weather protector (dependent on dog type/breed)
Ensure your dog is up to date with flea, tick and worming protection
A recent grooming appointment (ensure your dog is looking it's best)
Now that you have everything you need, don’t forget dog park etiquette (yes it’s a thing)
Ensure your dog is well trained and ok to socialise with other dogs if off the lead
Restrain your dog if they are showing bad behaviour
Don’t hand out dog treats to other dogs without checking first with the owner
Always clean up after your pet
Don’t bring any unvaccinated puppies or dogs on heat to the park
We hope you are now more equipped for the dog park. If you have any questions about taking your best friend to the park, ask one of our friendly team members in store.
